A recertification occurs when an eligible household reapplies for continued participation in the Food Stamp Program before the end of the month following the month the certification period expired. For example, if a household's certification period expires in September an application for recertification must be filed before the end of October. Usually applications for recertification are submitted in the last month of the household's certification period.
