Food stamp households composed only of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) applicants and/or recipients may apply for food stamps at Social Security Administration (SSA) offices. SSA will accept the application for food stamps, obtain verification, and forward the application with an approved transmittal and any other appropriate documents to the county office.
The county office will then determine eligibility; and if the household is eligible, will determine the food stamp allotment. The county office will notify the household whether it is eligible or ineligible. If the household is found to be eligible, the notification will specify the amount of the food stamp allotment and the certification period.
