8961Processing Applications on Potentially Categorically Eligible Households

A categorically eligible household is any household in which all members receive or have been authorized to receive AFDC, SSI and/or General Assistance (GA) benefits with the following~exceptions.

Exception 1 -The entire household is institutionalized.

Exception 2 -At least one household member has been disqualified from receiving food stamps due to an intentional program violation.

Exception 3 -The household has been disqualified for failure to comply with work registration, voluntary quit, E&T Program requirements or workfare.

Categorically eligible house-holds need not meet residency requirements, SSN requirements, sponsored alien requirements, the resource limits, or either gross or net income limits. Households in which all members have made application for AFDC and/or SSI are considered potentially categorically eligible. This will include all joint AFDC - food stamp applications and all joint SSI - food stamp applications.

Potentially categorically eligible households will be handled as specified below.
