Southwest Arkansas Community Development Corporation

Background

Soutwest Arkansas Comunity Development Corporation was incorporated in May 1990 by a group of concerned citizens who recognized the need for a locally based effort to stimulate individuals and community development. An abandoned school site located in the heart of Magnolia, Arkansas offered great potential for this effort. The old Columbia High School (Columbia County, Arkansas) was donated for lease to SWACDC for the Columbia District Baptist Association, and a community project to restore the main building was initiated. A new roof was installed and significant restoration work has renovated the structure into a highly functional center that community members take great pride in. The Child Development Center is the first SWACDC program to operate out of the facility. In 1993, SWACDC relocated its offices to the site. Ample space is available for additional programs.

Mission

SWACDC will improve the economic and social conditions for low and middle income people in the eight - county area in Southwest Arkansas by focusing on the areas of affordable housing, job opportunities, comprehensive information and referral services, and child care programs.
