Welcome to the Computer Assisted Solutions Environment System! For the last two years, a group in Columbia County has been meeting to address potential new solutions merited by the shifting of government and community roles in provision of social services. The group is spearheaded by the new department of Behavioral and Social Sciences at Southern Arkansas University--Magnolia, a unit that houses psychology, sociology, and social work. Local churches, businesses, non-profit organizations, and governmental units are also charter members of this group. Their cooperation has produced an easily-used, Internet-based distributed system rapidly accessible to all, even those with older computers and slower modems. The system is now ready for distribution after three years of brainstorming, testing, and refining. The system creates a virtual online community, or a place where people can get together, communicate, share problems, and find solutions. More importantly, the system is flexible and democratic, anyone in the community can take part in the life of the community. The system allows any interested person to connect to it and to join Community Solutions Groups or CSGs. These groups consist of people who are trying to solve a particlar problem. Here are some examples of how the system might work:
By simply having an Internet connection and freely available browser software, any interested party can become a member of this group. SAU provides the server hardware, local Internet Access companies provide connectivity, Behavioral and Social Sciences faculty and students train users, and you, the citizens of Columbia County provide the answers to the problems that face all of us. Of course, there are more details. If you are interested in hearing more, contact:
