heitml supports the ADABAS database system. ADABAS is a powerful commercial product.

• heitmluser, heitmlpasswd must give the ADABAS user and password. It is recommended to use just one user (e.g. www), since whenever the username changes, heitml needs to disconnect and connect again, which is quite expensive.
  User and passwd must be given in capital letters!
• heitmldbname must give the database name. The database name must be given in capital letters.

heitml supports the long data type of ADABAS. You can show long text fields with the ? tag, as any other field. You can embed long text fields into updates by using the hstv format specification (e.g. <? test hstv>).

Using this feature, you can maintain text databases. It is even possible to keep heitml-pages in the database using the heitml format specification.
