O'Reilly WebsiteTM

General
If you installed O'Reilly WebsiteTM 1.1 or 2.x after installing heitml then read this page. It tells you what you need to know about running O'Reilly WebsiteTM 1.1 or 2.x with heitml on Windows 95/NT.

Since configuration parameters differ for the heitml CGI and ISAPI version, look at the following table for the corresponding parameters. Note that "C:\heitml2.0x" is the directory where you installed heitml. Also note that the heitml ISAPI version won't run with O'Reilly WebsiteTM 1.1.

MIME typeWebsite 1.1 opening actionWebsite 2.x EXE or DLL
CGI versionwwwserver/shellcgiC:\heitml2.0x\program\heitml.exe /C %1C:\heitml2.0x\program\heitml.exe
ISAPI versionwwwserver/isapiwon't run with Website 1.1C:\heitml2.0x\program\heitmlisapi.dll

Now check the following points:

  1. Check the mapping of the .hei file extension to the corresponding MIME type.
Therefore, open "Server Properties" under the program group "Website 1.1"
or "WebSite Professional (Common)". The "WebSite Server Properties"
window appears. Choose the "Mapping" tab and click "Content Types" in
the "List Selector" group box. In the mapping list, check whether the
file extension .hei is mapped to the corresponding MIME type. If
not, enter .hei in the "File extension (class)" input field and enter the
corresponding MIME type in the "MIME Content Type" input field.
Click the "Add" button to add the mapping to the mapping list.
Click "OK" to close the "WebSite Server Properties" window.

  2. Check the association of the .hei file extension with the heitml application.
For Website 1.1, start Windows Explorer or double-click the 'My Computer'
icon on the desktop, choose 'Options' from the 'View' menu, choose the
'File Types' tab and search for 'heitml File' in the list of registered
file types. In the 'File type details' group box, the extension should be
HEI. Now double-click on 'heitml File' and double-click on 'open' from
the list of actions. The 'application used to perform action' should be
the corresponding Website 1.1 opening action.

For WebSite 2.x, open "Server Properties" under the program group
"WebSite Professional (Common)". The "WebSite Server Properties" window
appears. Choose the "Mapping" tab and click "Associations" in the
"List Selector" group box. In the mapping list, check whether the file
extension .hei is associated with the corresponding Website 2.x EXE or
DLL. If not, enter .hei in the "File extension" input field and enter the
path of the corresponding Website 2.x EXE or DLL in the
"Associated EXE or DLL (full local pathname)" input field. Click the
"Add" button to add the association to the mapping list.
Click "OK" to close the "WebSite Server Properties" window.

  3. Check whether the document URL path /heitml2.0x is mapped to the physical disk location where the heitml documents are installed.
Therefore, open "Server Properties" under the program group "Website 1.1"
or "WebSite Professional (Common)". The "WebSite Server Properties"
window appears. Choose the "Mapping" tab and click "Documents" in the
"List Selector" group box. In the mapping list, check whether the
Document URL path /heitml2.0x is mapped to the directory
C:\heitml2.0x\htdocs\heitml2.0x, where C:\heitml2.0x is the directory where you
installed heitml. If not, enter /heitml2.0x in the "Document URL Path"
input field and enter C:\heitml2.0x\htdocs\heitml2.0x in the
"Directory (full or document-relative)" input field.
Click the "Add" button to add the mapping to the mapping list.
Click "OK" to close the "WebSite Server Properties" window.

  4. Check the mapping of the .ini file extension to the corresponding MIME type.
You do this to disable browsing of heitml configuration files.
Proceed in the same way as you did in 1.

  5. Shutdown the Website server if it has been started.
Therefore, move the mouse pointer over the Website 1.1 wheel icon or the
Website 2.x thunder cloud icon on the task bar, click the right mouse
button and choose the menu item 'Shut down Website server'.

  6. Start the Website server.
Therefore, choose 'Website Server' from the program group "Website 1.1"
or "WebSite Professional (Common)". The Website 1.1 wheel icon or the
Website 2.x thunder cloud icon should appear now on the task bar
indicating that the server has been started.

  7. If you use a proxy server, configure your browser so that no proxy server is used for localhost.
  8. Double-click the 'doc' icon in the 'RADpage with heitml' program group.
Note that the heitml server variables SrvDaylight and SrvTZName do not return what you expect with O'Reilly WebsiteTM 1.1.

In case of problems:

  • Be sure you switched off any proxy server for localhost in your browser.
