Arkansas Partnerships in Public Child Welfare

The Department of Behavioral and Social Science at Southern Arkansas University works with the Title IV-E Arkansas Partnerships for Public Child Welfare.

This partnership is designed to improve the education of students who might enter the field of public child welfare by increasing their knowledge of practices in this area and their skills. SAU faculty also conduct continuing education workshops for area professionals who deal with children at risk. Assistance is provided for employees of the Division of Children and Family Services (Arkansas Department of Human Services) through case consultation, continuing education, and other support.

At SAU, we offer a Resource Materials Library and are developing the Family and Child Welfare Technology Project.

We presented a paper on our work to the American Association for Higher Education (November 1996).

For your convenience, here is the Executive Summary of the 1997 Assessment of the Progress of the Arkansas Department of Human Services (DHS) Division of Children and Family Services (DCFS) In Meeting the Requirements of the Angela R. Settlement Agreement (Center for the Study of Social Policy, Washington, DC, August 10, 1998).
