The Ecological School

Ecological School looks at social change that occurs within enviromental change.
- This school of thought is closely associated with the Chicago School of sociology and the work of Ernest Burgess and Robert Park.
- Social Disorganization Theory was an outgrowth of this line of study.
- Ecological Theory is also a form of functional theory which was first developed by Durkhiem.
The ecological school of criminology thought that crime was caused from the enviroments that people lived within. This was in contrast to the commonly held belief that crime was a function of biology.
Different sections of the city were seen as different functional organs.The results it was thought was that the section of the city you lived in would then influnce your behavior.
